With a name from the Latin meaning ‘amazing’ and commonly called the ‘Marvel of Peru’, it is little wonder Mirabilis ‘Jalapa’ is so fascinating. Remarkably, many different coloured flowers are simultaneously produced on the same bushy plant.
The buds unfurl from late afternoon onwards, earning this variety the nickname ‘Four O’clock Flower’. The blooms radiate a heady, sweet fragrance, much like Nicotiana, proving irresistible to nocturnal pollinators.
Kept frost free, Mirabilis is robust and vigorous, making it an ideal candidate for growing in patio containers and overwintering in the conservatory for an increasingly impressive display each year.
