Lily Flowering Tulip Fire Wings
T1779
Description
Voracious and vibrant, aptly named tulip ‘Fire Wings’ is not for the faint of heart, but certainly a tulip to make an impression, adding character and colour to the garden in spring.
Blooming in an elegant, lily-flowered shape, the flowers feature flame-like markings of rich yellow and fire-engine red.
Combine with a tonal flower palette of reds, oranges and yellows for a vivid yet harmonious look, or plant with deep and rich purple shades to intensify the colours.
Care Guide
November is the optimum month for planting Tulip bulbs. The cooler late-autumn temperatures help to keep disease at bay, whilst still allowing time for your bulbs to put roots down before spring. Any well-drained, fertile soil is perfect for Tulips, ideally in full sun or part shade. Plant the bulbs 10-20cm deep, spaced 10-20cm apart. A piece of chicken wire or mesh can be placed on top of the soil or pots after planting if squirrels or rodents are a problem in your area. After flowering in March to May, remove withered stems, foliage and any fallen petals to promote good plant health and apply a top dressing of high-potash fertiliser in late winter.
