Sparaxis Tricolor Choice Mixture
M5851
Description
Also referred to as the ‘Harlequin Flower’, Sparaxis is renowned for its distinctive patchwork patterning. Bright petals surround a contrasting, geometric star shape, boldly emblazoned at the centre. This ‘Tricolour Choice Mixture’ brings together a flamboyant selection of these brilliant blooms. Boasting an RHS Award of Garden Merit for prolific performance, these tender cormous perennials are ideal for summer container displays and growing under glass. Sparaxis also make delightful, long lasting cut flowers – display this colourful assortment in a delightful rainbow bunch, or showcase each individual stem in a row of single bud vases.
Care Guide
South African native Sparaxis thrive in a sunny location, in well-drained, fertile soil.
Plant bulbs 7.5cm deep, spaced 10cm apart in the soil in late spring. Water immediately after planting and regularly throughout the growing season, especially during spells of dry weather.
Grow in large groups for best effect. The late summer flowers are excellent for cutting.
Remove spent flowers, allowing foliage to die back naturally in autumn and discontinue watering until the following spring.
Bulbs require protection from severe frost and cold, drying winds. Mulch the soil surface with organic matter in winter.
