Nerine Undulata
M6536
Description
Like frilly, twirling tutus, Nerine ‘Undulata’ dances in umbels of satiny, ballet-slipper pink. ‘Undulata’ means ‘wavy’, describing the beautifully crinkled edges of each reflexed petal. The exposed, prominent stamens of the trumpet-shaped blooms provide an important source of nectar to late-flying pollinators.
These glistening flowers will greatly enhance your late-autumn garden, lending new energy to flagging borders and patio displays. Nerines look especially effective in generous groupings amongst large containers and in sweeping drifts amongst herbaceous beds.
Make the most of this delicate variety by cutting a few stems to bring indoors for charming, long-lasting floral arrangements.
Care Guide
Nerines can be grown in pots or in the ground. Either way, a sunny location is necessary for these autumn flowering bulbs, ideally against a south-facing wall.
Plant the bulbs in spring 10cm apart into well-drained, fertile soil. Ensure the neck of each bulb sits just above the surface of your soil as this will promote flourishing blooms.
For container planting, use an equal mix of loam based potting compost and multi-purpose compost.
Delicate, lily-like blooms are produced in abundance during September and October. Excellent for cutting.
In colder regions, mulch the area around your plants after flowering to provide winter protection.
Nerines resent root disturbance, so try not to move them once settled. Only lift and divide after several years if flowering begins to diminish.
