Gloriosa Carsonii
M6245
Description
‘Gloriosa’ by name and glorious by nature, this spectacular climber scrambles eagerly up any support, gripping with curled, leaf-tip tendrils, and embellished by remarkable blooms in high summer.
The wavy-edged petals of ‘Carsonii’ are a velvety, purple maroon, lined by a flash of bright yellow. These elongated petals rocket upwards, leaving the stamens displayed prominently beneath. Gloriosa is wonderful for clambering up a trellis in a sunny position, and for adding a touch of exotic flair to a glasshouse or conservatory.
These bulbs are best planted in a container, so they can easily be moved indoors to protect from winter frosts.
Care Guide
Exotic Gloriosa Lilies are best started off indoors in spring.
Plant the rhizome on its side, just under the surface of good quality potting soil in a container with suitable drainage holes.
Keep in a warm place and provide consistent watering to ensure the soil stays moderately moist. Avoid touching the growing points and sprouts.
Flowers appear early on and once blooming starts in summer, pots can be transferred outdoors into a warm and sunny, sheltered site.
Robust vines climb to impressive heights of 100-240cm bearing show-stopping, flame-like blooms in July-September.
Bulbs will need to be lifted and stored during dormancy in the winter months as they are not frost hardy.
