A striking member of the Hyacinthacea family, Bellevalia ‘Pycnantha’ produces exquisite, navy-blue beaded spears during April and May. In tight bud, the petite flowers appear a shade of deep-turquoise - reminiscent of a deep ocean or dusky sky.
Tiny florets open from the base of the flower cones upwards exposing a creamy-yellow, pollen-dense interior, highly attractive to bees.
This rare beauty is similar in looks and habit to its relation the grape hyacinth. It is just as easy to grow, thriving in moist, well-drained soil. Plant the bulbs in groups or swathes in sun or part shade where they will naturalise with ease. Happiest grown in open ground or garden borders rather than containers.
