Ruffled Gladioli Rik's Frizzle
G1003
Description
Gladioli ‘Rik’s Frizzle’ sports glamorous, salmon-coral blooms with a creamy white throat. The ‘frizzle’ varieties boast extraordinary, ruffled petals, adding a delightfully frilly texture. Soaring to a statuesque height of 120cm, the vertical silhouette is striking amongst borders of contrasting shapes, such as airy gaura, voluptuous dahlias, and low-growing geraniums. Gladioli are amongst the most popular flowers for cutting, and it will be hard to resist snipping these stems to enjoy indoors. The gorgeous pink, rumpled petals are even better when viewed up close, gradually unfurling in the vase.
Care Guide
To cultivate Gladioli, choose a sunny site with well-drained, well-manured garden soil. Dig a trench 15cm deep and place the corms 10-15cm apart, covering with soil and ensuring they sit 5cm below the surface. Water regularly, maintaining soil moisture until growth is established, and during hot, dry spells of weather. Stagger planting at two-week intervals to ensure continuous flowering over a long period. Expect stately, colourful spikes reaching 60-90cm in height which many require staking for support. The smaller variety ‘Glamini’ Gladioli will reach a maximum height of 50cm.
