Tulip Species Humillis Persian Pearl
T1003
Description
A rare and refined gem, the Species tulip ‘Persian Pearl’ will be the jewel in the crown of your early spring display. Opulent, silken, cyclamen purple blooms are streaked with flashes of glistening silver. Perfectly formed, pointed buds burst open to reveal a heart of gold. The outer petals exhibit a lustrous sheen, like a pearl glinting in the light. This small treasure is ideal for filling pots, adorning rockeries, and dotting amongst grass where it will naturalise effortlessly. After the long, grey days of winter, ‘Persian Pearl’ offers luxurious colour and glamour early in the season.
Care Guide
November is the optimum month for planting Tulip bulbs. The cooler late-autumn temperatures help to keep disease at bay, whilst still allowing time for your bulbs to put roots down before spring. Any well-drained, fertile soil is perfect for Tulips, ideally in full sun or part shade. Plant the bulbs 10-20cm deep, spaced 10-20cm apart. A piece of chicken wire or mesh can be placed on top of the soil or pots after planting if squirrels or rodents are a problem in your area. After flowering in March to May, remove withered stems, foliage and any fallen petals to promote good plant health and apply a top dressing of high-potash fertiliser in late winter.
