Fosteriana Tulip Orange Emperor
T1124
Description
Dressed in the most splendid finery of persimmon orange petals, ‘Orange Emperor’ appears exceptionally early in the season to provide radiant richness after a long, colourless winter. Such is the glory of this princely tulip that it has been granted an RHS Award of Garden Merit, proving itself to be consistently outstanding. Plant in bold groupings amongst containers and borders for a magnificent, long-lasting display. In the right position, this Fosteriana variety is perennial and will return admirably year after year. Cut a few stems to bring the warm amber tones into your home for when the weather outdoors is not so inviting.
Care Guide
November is the optimum month for planting Tulip bulbs. The cooler late-autumn temperatures help to keep disease at bay, whilst still allowing time for your bulbs to put roots down before spring. Any well-drained, fertile soil is perfect for Tulips, ideally in full sun or part shade. Plant the bulbs 10-20cm deep, spaced 10-20cm apart. A piece of chicken wire or mesh can be placed on top of the soil or pots after planting if squirrels or rodents are a problem in your area. After flowering in March to May, remove withered stems, foliage and any fallen petals to promote good plant health and apply a top dressing of high-potash fertiliser in late winter.
