Early Single Tulip Candy Prince
T1251
Description
With its soft lilac blooms, ‘Candy Prince’ resembles the iconic Parma Violet sweet. Each dainty petal is finely etched with deeper purple feathering, enhanced by a backdrop of silver-green foliage. Unlike some of the more gregarious tulips, this variety has a demure, muted air and makes an excellent partner to stronger characters such as ‘Negrita’. Alone, the subtle, pale blooms of ‘Candy Prince’ bring a feeling of cool peace and tranquillity to borders and container displays. Despite its delicate looks, sturdy stems remain robust even in inclement weather. Be sure to snip a few stems to enjoy the calming, pastel shades indoors.
Care Guide
November is the optimum month for planting Tulip bulbs. The cooler late-autumn temperatures help to keep disease at bay, whilst still allowing time for your bulbs to put roots down before spring. Any well-drained, fertile soil is perfect for Tulips, ideally in full sun or part shade. Plant the bulbs 10-20cm deep, spaced 10-20cm apart. A piece of chicken wire or mesh can be placed on top of the soil or pots after planting if squirrels or rodents are a problem in your area. After flowering in March to May, remove withered stems, foliage and any fallen petals to promote good plant health and apply a top dressing of high-potash fertiliser in late winter.
