Description

‘Purple Prince’ reigns supreme with sumptuous blooms of deep purple, with a crown of golden anthers emerging from the centre of each bloom. The petals exhibit a velvety sheen, much like the Imperial robe worn for the Coronation. The colour purple has a long history of being associated with elite status, power, and wealth – the dye was originally so costly to produce that only rulers were able to afford it. Thankfully, we can all enjoy the lavish richness of ‘Purple Prince’ and relish the sense of majesty this tulip brings to the spring garden, elevating your pots and borders to regal splendour.

Care Guide

November is the optimum month for planting Tulip bulbs. The cooler late-autumn temperatures help to keep disease at bay, whilst still allowing time for your bulbs to put roots down before spring. Any well-drained, fertile soil is perfect for Tulips, ideally in full sun or part shade. Plant the bulbs 10-20cm deep, spaced 10-20cm apart. A piece of chicken wire or mesh can be placed on top of the soil or pots after planting if squirrels or rodents are a problem in your area. After flowering in March to May, remove withered stems, foliage and any fallen petals to promote good plant health and apply a top dressing of high-potash fertiliser in late winter.
