Description

Blooming in shades of salmon and rose, flushed with dark green and muted purple, the pointed petals of tulip ‘Artist’ look as though they have been painted with the sweeping strokes of an artist’s brush.

These unique Heirloom tulips are long-lasting and return every spring for years to come, unlike many modern tulip varieties.  The stems are not especially long, so plant near the front of the border and fill your pots to ensure ‘Artist’s exceptional beauty is not overshadowed by taller plants.

Care Guide

November is the optimum month for planting Tulip bulbs. The cooler late-autumn temperatures help to keep disease at bay, whilst still allowing time for your bulbs to put roots down before spring. Any well-drained, fertile soil is perfect for Tulips, ideally in full sun or part shade. Plant the bulbs 10-20cm deep, spaced 10-20cm apart. A piece of chicken wire or mesh can be placed on top of the soil or pots after planting if squirrels or rodents are a problem in your area. After flowering in March to May, remove withered stems, foliage and any fallen petals to promote good plant health and apply a top dressing of high-potash fertiliser in late winter.
