Description

Silken, reflexed petals of lavender-blue open up from tight buds in May to produce the most perfect blooms on tulip ‘Bleu Aimable’, making this unusual tulip the star of spring borders and containers.  The colours become deeper and richer as the blooms mature.

Acid-green foliage seems to intensify the purple hues and this stunning tulip works equally well with silvery-blue plants in the garden and in the vase.

Late-blooming tulip ‘Bleu Aimable’ is one of the last tulips to bloom, putting on an unmissable encore in the spring garden.

Care Guide

November is the optimum month for planting Tulip bulbs. The cooler late-autumn temperatures help to keep disease at bay, whilst still allowing time for your bulbs to put roots down before spring. Any well-drained, fertile soil is perfect for Tulips, ideally in full sun or part shade. Plant the bulbs 10-20cm deep, spaced 10-20cm apart. A piece of chicken wire or mesh can be placed on top of the soil or pots after planting if squirrels or rodents are a problem in your area. After flowering in March to May, remove withered stems, foliage and any fallen petals to promote good plant health and apply a top dressing of high-potash fertiliser in late winter.
