Mid Season Tulip Affaire
T1411
Description
A thrilling new variety, ‘Affaire’ is a tantalising tulip to set hearts racing. A sport of the more subtle ‘Shirley’, this ravishing temptress is intent on turning heads. With vanilla cream petals accentuated by a flash of deep pink along the feathered edges, each bloom is borne on tall, lithe stems. This mid-season variety will add a touch of glamour to your borders, containers, and floral arrangements. ‘Affaire’ is a flattering companion to other pink and purple flowers, and the bi-coloured blooms make a playful statement when planted alone in clumps. A fantastic tulip for adding a frisson of excitement to your spring display.
Care Guide
November is the optimum month for planting Tulip bulbs. The cooler late-autumn temperatures help to keep disease at bay, whilst still allowing time for your bulbs to put roots down before spring. Any well-drained, fertile soil is perfect for Tulips, ideally in full sun or part shade. Plant the bulbs 10-20cm deep, spaced 10-20cm apart. A piece of chicken wire or mesh can be placed on top of the soil or pots after planting if squirrels or rodents are a problem in your area. After flowering in March to May, remove withered stems, foliage and any fallen petals to promote good plant health and apply a top dressing of high-potash fertiliser in late winter.
