Gloxinia Tigrina Blue
M6270
Description
The highly decorative blooms of Gloxinia ‘Tigrina Blue’ flaunt violet-blue petals encircling a white centre, finely flecked by purple freckles. A favourite of the Victorians, Gloxinia are as delightful to grow now as they were in centuries past. Flowering continuously for many months, the clusters of blooms form miniature bouquets, held proudly aloft to show off their markings. A rosette of fuzzy, emerald-green foliage provides an attractive backdrop. Hailing from the rainforests of Brazil, these fascinating flowers enjoy warm, humid conditions. ‘Tigrina Blue’ will thrive as a houseplant, bringing ornamental appeal to any brightly lit room in your home.
Care Guide
Gloxinias are house plants which thrive in a conservatory or on a warm windowsill.
Plant the tubers with the hollow side facing up in pots of moisture retentive compost. Do not fully bury the tuber – leave the top exposed above soil level.
Place pots on a bed of pebbles or stones in a dish for humidity and water regularly from below to avoid rotting or damaging stems and leaves.
Feed every two weeks with high-phosphorus liquid plant food once buds appear in early summer.
The velvety, bell-shaped blooms in rich, vibrant hues will bring botanical charm to your indoor spaces.
