Tulip Species Little Beauty
T1004
Description
Growing wild in abundance on the mountains of Turkey, the blooms of ‘Little Beauty’ live up to their name. Radiant petals of cerise pink encircle a feathered, slate blue centre which blurs into a smudged white margin. Each ornate flower is a captivating work of art. Despite its delicate appearance, ‘Little Beauty’ is one of the most steadfastly perennial tulips and naturalises enthusiastically to form wonderful drifts of colour. Such reliability and vigour have earnt this botanical tulip the prestigious RHS Award of Garden Merit. A tremendous variety for planting in swathes amongst lawns, rockeries, and borders, and for bringing a touch of glamour to spring pots.
Care Guide
November is the optimum month for planting Tulip bulbs. The cooler late-autumn temperatures help to keep disease at bay, whilst still allowing time for your bulbs to put roots down before spring. Any well-drained, fertile soil is perfect for Tulips, ideally in full sun or part shade. Plant the bulbs 10-20cm deep, spaced 10-20cm apart. A piece of chicken wire or mesh can be placed on top of the soil or pots after planting if squirrels or rodents are a problem in your area. After flowering in March to May, remove withered stems, foliage and any fallen petals to promote good plant health and apply a top dressing of high-potash fertiliser in late winter.
