Description

Opulent and exotic, tulip ‘Negrita Parrot’ is the cousin to popular purple tulip ‘Negrita’ and makes a spectacular bold addition to the late spring garden.

The impressively large blooms are comprised of twisting, feathered petals in royal-purple with flashes of blackberry and the odd splash of contrasting green.  Long, strong stems mean this flamboyant beauty is perfect as a cut flower, lasting for well over a week in the vase.

Excellent for pots and nestling into herbaceous borders, the rich hues are intensified by zingy orange shades and fresh lime greens.

Care Guide

November is the optimum month for planting Tulip bulbs. The cooler late-autumn temperatures help to keep disease at bay, whilst still allowing time for your bulbs to put roots down before spring. Any well-drained, fertile soil is perfect for Tulips, ideally in full sun or part shade. Plant the bulbs 10-20cm deep, spaced 10-20cm apart. A piece of chicken wire or mesh can be placed on top of the soil or pots after planting if squirrels or rodents are a problem in your area. After flowering in March to May, remove withered stems, foliage and any fallen petals to promote good plant health and apply a top dressing of high-potash fertiliser in late winter.
