Description

‘Itzim’, a supremely powerful deity of Mayan theology, was worshipped as the origin of creation and credited with linking the sun and the earth. Likewise, the Narcissus ‘Itzim’ seems equally to mark the dawn of new life, with its sunshine yellow blooms appearing early in the season. Plump, balloon-like buds burst into vibrant blooms with sweeping rays of reflexed petals and slender trumpets the colour of a fresh egg yolk. A sturdy, compact habit makes this variety remarkably weather-resistant in those unpredictable first days of spring, and its reliability has earned ‘Itzim’ the accolade of an RHS Award of Garden Merit.

Care Guide

Plant Daffodil and Narcissi bulbs in autumn, ideally in mid September to early October to enable roots to establish before a period of cold in winter. A position in full sun or light shade is best and good drainage is essential. Daffodils and Narcissi are long lasting and naturalise well, providing a welcoming display every spring. Ideal for borders, containers, rock gardens and open grass. Plant the bulbs 10-20cm deep and apart, depending on variety. A good rule of thumb is to plant bulbs 2-3 times their depth. Flowers appear in March and April and should be deadheaded once faded. The foliage should be left to turn yellow and fade naturally on the plant as this helps to feed the bulbs for next year’s blooms.
