Fosteriana Tulip Purissima
T1126
Description
The epitome of sheer sophistication, ‘Purissima’ is one of the first tulips to bloom, launching your spring display in style. Architectural, stately stems carry sizeable, cup-shaped, milk white flowers. The alabaster blooms make an elegant highlight in borders and containers when planted in plenteous swathes and groupings. Elongated, sturdy stems make for excellent cut flowers as a luminous adornment to your home. Highly praised as one of the best white tulips and much loved by gardeners, the RHS has presented ‘Purissima’ with the prestigious Award of Garden Merit. This Fosteriana variety is a robust perennial and will reappear serenely each spring.
Care Guide
November is the optimum month for planting Tulip bulbs. The cooler late-autumn temperatures help to keep disease at bay, whilst still allowing time for your bulbs to put roots down before spring. Any well-drained, fertile soil is perfect for Tulips, ideally in full sun or part shade. Plant the bulbs 10-20cm deep, spaced 10-20cm apart. A piece of chicken wire or mesh can be placed on top of the soil or pots after planting if squirrels or rodents are a problem in your area. After flowering in March to May, remove withered stems, foliage and any fallen petals to promote good plant health and apply a top dressing of high-potash fertiliser in late winter.
