Description

A brilliant beam of clear, bright sunlight, ‘Sunny Prince’ is a heartening sight at the beginning of the season, hinting of warmer days to come. The cheerful, buttercup blooms capture and reflect the sun’s rays, seeming to be lit from within. The strong stems of this Single Early variety mean that it is unphased by rough weather and is suitable for planting in exposed locations. With large, cup-shaped flower heads sat atop broad, lush foliage this tulip is a beacon of light amongst borders and containers, full of the promise of spring.

Care Guide

November is the optimum month for planting Tulip bulbs. The cooler late-autumn temperatures help to keep disease at bay, whilst still allowing time for your bulbs to put roots down before spring. Any well-drained, fertile soil is perfect for Tulips, ideally in full sun or part shade. Plant the bulbs 10-20cm deep, spaced 10-20cm apart. A piece of chicken wire or mesh can be placed on top of the soil or pots after planting if squirrels or rodents are a problem in your area. After flowering in March to May, remove withered stems, foliage and any fallen petals to promote good plant health and apply a top dressing of high-potash fertiliser in late winter.
