Description

The striking beauty of tulip ‘Queen of Night’ must be seen to be believed.  These almost-black tulips have a velveteen quality in shade, but when sunlight shines through, the petals glow and their rich, plummy tones come to life.

Tulip ‘Queen of Night’ makes an excellent bedfellow to other late tulips and in fact, nearly all colours are enhanced by its rich tones - pale pinks appear softer, orange shades burn brighter, and whites will seem more luminous.

A superior and elegant maroon tulip with long stems, ideal for cutting and adding an unusual edge to floral designs.

Care Guide

November is the optimum month for planting Tulip bulbs. The cooler late-autumn temperatures help to keep disease at bay, whilst still allowing time for your bulbs to put roots down before spring. Any well-drained, fertile soil is perfect for Tulips, ideally in full sun or part shade. Plant the bulbs 10-20cm deep, spaced 10-20cm apart. A piece of chicken wire or mesh can be placed on top of the soil or pots after planting if squirrels or rodents are a problem in your area. After flowering in March to May, remove withered stems, foliage and any fallen petals to promote good plant health and apply a top dressing of high-potash fertiliser in late winter.
