Paeony Flowering Tulip Avant Garde
T1837
Description
Tulip ‘Avant Garde’ is a fresh, buttery-yellow paeony-flowered tulip. The sumptuous creamy blooms emit a delicate fragrance when they open in April and resemble large blowsy roses, or camellias.
Plant a sea of these beauties for a heavenly vision when they bloom in spring and fill vintage containers for pretty displays. Particularly beautiful when planted cheek to cheek with soft blue, lavender and pink hues.
The flowers are excellent for cutting and adding a lemony ruffle to bouquets and arrangements.
Care Guide
November is the optimum month for planting Tulip bulbs. The cooler late-autumn temperatures help to keep disease at bay, whilst still allowing time for your bulbs to put roots down before spring. Any well-drained, fertile soil is perfect for Tulips, ideally in full sun or part shade. Plant the bulbs 10-20cm deep, spaced 10-20cm apart. A piece of chicken wire or mesh can be placed on top of the soil or pots after planting if squirrels or rodents are a problem in your area. After flowering in March to May, remove withered stems, foliage and any fallen petals to promote good plant health and apply a top dressing of high-potash fertiliser in late winter.
