Description

Narcissus ‘Chinese Sacred Lily’ is a tazetta species of daffodil, mainly grown for its wonderful, honeyed-citrus fragrance.

Each stem produces a cluster of up to 10 delightful flowers with creamy-white petals and a tiny yellow cup.

Perfect for forcing to flower indoors during winter, the bulbs require around 12 weeks of cool storage after planting before being moved into a warm, bright space where they will bloom after 3-4 weeks.

Believed to bring good fortune for the year ahead if it blooms during Chinese New Year, the ancient Chinese Sacred Lily is thought to have been brought to China via the Silk Road over 1200 years ago, perhaps for medicinal purposes, and can be found growing wild in China, Japan, and Korea.

Care Guide

Plant Daffodil and Narcissi bulbs in autumn, ideally in mid September to early October to enable roots to establish before a period of cold in winter. A position in full sun or light shade is best and good drainage is essential. Daffodils and Narcissi are long lasting and naturalise well, providing a welcoming display every spring. Ideal for borders, containers, rock gardens and open grass. Plant the bulbs 10-20cm deep and apart, depending on variety. A good rule of thumb is to plant bulbs 2-3 times their depth. Flowers appear in March and April and should be deadheaded once faded. The foliage should be left to turn yellow and fade naturally on the plant as this helps to feed the bulbs for next year’s blooms.
