Cosmos Astrosanguineus
M6141
Description
Cosmos ‘Astrosanguineus’ is a decadent treat for your garden, with the delicious rich fragrance of dark chocolate laced with vanilla. Sumptuous, velvety maroon blooms dance on long, wiry stems for an airy, elegant addition to pots and borders. The intoxicating, cocoa scent is equally adored by pollinators, and the open-faced blooms welcome bees and butterflies to indulge in the sweet nectar. Be sure to position some containers next to doors and walkways to fully appreciate the mesmerising perfume as you brush past. These tender perennials originate from Mexico: lift and store indoors over winter to protect them from the cold and wet.
Care Guide
Plant perennial Cosmos roots 5-8cm deep in a sunny spot with well-drained soil, spacing 30cm apart.
Rich, chocolate-scented, maroon or pink blooms, measuring 5-8cm in diameter are produced in July and August. The alluring, velvety flowers top stems reaching 60-90cm tall.
Not frost hardy. Mulch the crowns with peat-free compost in autumn after cutting back stems or lift and re-pot in a greenhouse for protection.
Can be grown in containers of well-drained, rich compost.
